Class Ring by Hyo Silver

Graduation is such an exciting time. There is a long list of do to's before you walk across the stage. One being picking out a class ring. I was so pumped to get to the point where I could finally begin designing my class ring. There are so many options now as to where you can have one made. Not to mention all the different styles. I always knew I wouldn't do something traditional although I really wanted one. I did my research, decided on a silversmith and waited what felt like forever!

I chose to go through Hyo Silver. I knew a lot of girls who chose to order a ring from

them and they always looked so good. I graduated with my B.A from Tarleton State so I had to have something purple on my ring. I was initially going to get something just plain and simple, then I thought - THIS IS A BIG DEAL FOR ME. So I decided to go all out. I went with a large RimRock purple turquoise stone, and a 7/8 inch band. For more info on this specific ring I designed click this link here, they actually listed it after I received my ring (I thought that was pretty cool). I have photographed many graduating seniors and one of my favorite things to do is get "ring shots." I love getting up close photos of their rings- the small details and designs are so neat too me. With so many amazing artists out there I figured why not showcase a few or give some options for those who are still on the hunt for their future class ring. Before I get into all the details and overflow of pictures, here are a few tips:

1. Figure out your budget & stick to it.

It can be very tiring and some what of a let down to find a ring or silversmith you're in love with and realize its out of your price point. Many artists have very valid reasons as to why they charge the amount they do. If your going to a more popular source- they could charge more due to time or simply quality of the materials. Some will charge extra if it needs to be rushed or if you are crunched for time. Depending on the metal type, or if there are gems/stones or intricate details this could jump the price up some too.

2. Get sized ahead of time.

If you have an idea on thickness of the band you would like, go to a local jeweler and get sized to the finger you'd like to wear your ring on. Or if you know other people with the same brand ring that you're interested in - ask to try it on. I've probably had 6-8 people try on my ring or message me to try it on (it is a thicker band to accommodate the stone) before they order one of their own. It can make the ordering process speed up as well.

3. Be patient & conscious of time.

Ordering and making the ring can be very timely. Try to plan ahead so you can have your ring before graduation (if thats a big deal for you) or for senior/graduation pictures. Keep in mind many silversmiths have a waiting list and sometimes can accommodate rush orders but it may cost an extra fee.

4. Be creative.

Use your creativity when designing. Make it unique to you! Chose a silversmith whose style you really like. Pinterest was very helpful when I designed mine as well as searching hashtags on instagram.

Traditional

These more traditional styles were ordered through the University, local jewelers or other jewelers who make a lot of university rings. These rings can be a tad more pricey to me personally, but will never go out of style! Check out Jostens for styles similar to those below.

If you want a traditional style with some flare, check out Swindle's Jewelry. Located in Stephenville, Texas - Swindles is pretty well known for their "University Coin Rings," that are just classy. Not local to Stephenville, research the jewelers in your area & check out their styles and designs. You may be surprised what they have to offer or be inspired!

Non-Traditional

I am kinda a sucker for the "non-traditional" styled rings. I just love styles that stick out or are unlike anything else. These rings can be pricey as well, just depending on how crazy you want to make the ring or what style you chose. Check these unique styles out below:

These are both rings designed by Hyo Silver based out of Bandera, Texas. Mckenna (pictured left) chose to use a pearl as her stone - you don't to stick to just school colors! Do whatever you like best, you'll hopefully be wearing this ring for a long time, so make sure it something you'd be okay with.

This is a "Designs by Shea" ring. These styles are super unique and definitely have more fashionable look too them. Customize these rings with small pieces of turquoise and some arrows on the side and you have a truly authentic piece of art. Originally started in Australia Shea Fisher expanded her parents company to the USA, so more people can wear her designs.

Another personal favorite of mine is this class ring designed by Silo Silver for Sidney Nipper. Silo Silver is based out of Kansas. This is a perfect example of why when planning to order a class ring to pay attention to order dates and cut off dates. Silo Silver has a unique ordering process where there is a specific day when all custom orders are made. These spots go VERY fast and there is a limited number. This is so that she has time to get to all the orders and have a life of her own (you can't blame the woman there) due to the high demand of her products. Silo Silver has some truly unique and amazing pieces as well if you're wanting something different and fun! Another awesome ring that was made by Hyo Silver and designed but one of my closest friends, Alyssa is so cool! Alyssa spent a long time and I mean long time deciding what she wanted. She decided to go with an opal stone and a beautiful setting. Another unique style by San Jose Jewelers is subtle but fun. San Jose Jewelers is based out of Waco, Texas and has it's own "University Collection." These can range anywhere from $600 - $1,500. If you're wanting to splurge a little more or have a fancier ring, they've got a lot to chose from and design.

Graduating can be stressful and very overwhelming but it is a big milestone and everyone deserves to have something to commemorate it with. Here are a list of silversmiths that are amazing and everyone should check out!!!
